I have to bring your attention to a little project I am undertaking. It involves these:
That is a box of Merlin FA Premier League 07 stickers. The kind of thing 8 year olds collect and swap in the school yard. 8 year olds and now a fully grown 27 year old who really should know better.
You see collecting stickers was really great, but when I was 8 I never had the cash or the patience to ever get near to completing an album. There were always kids (who probably had dads as sad as me) who always seemed to have a full album inside 2 weeks and had enough swaps to nearly fill another. It would take me a whole season to get half way.
Well now I’m earning slightly more than 50p I thought it was about time I had another go. I want to be one of those annoying kids!
To make myself feel a little bit less sad I’m trying to approach it from a scientific angle and see just how many packets of 6 stickers (bought from ebay) it will take to fill an album.
I’m going to document every sticker, I’m going to keep a spreadsheet up to date that will give me lots of stats, and from those stats I will produce graphs and charts.
Of course this will all be blogged.
How all this actually makes it less sad I’m not sure, but it makes me feel better.
I’m using blogger – http://www.gotgotneedneed.blogspot.com – to keep things separate from here.
I’ve very quickly modified Mr Bowman’s Minima template and it’s a bit rubbish (not Doug’s elegant original, my butchering). I want to do something a lot more substantial but I’m up to eyes in designs a the moment.
It’s still very early days, and I have been let down on ebay for my first bulk buying (I’ve since won another 100 packs – he he!) – but if you are even slightly interested in nostalgia, football, stickers, statistics or a grown man acting stupid – check it out!
